Formulating an Action Plan for Your Business

Creating an action plan or to-do list doesn’t need to be complicated if follow a few simple rules.With the beginning of a new year it seems the perfect time to plan out your tasks/projects for the year and review your wins and losses from the previous year to see what lessons can be learnt.

Ensure that you record your goals. For some this means using lined paper for others a simple table in a spreadsheet, word document or the ‘Tasks’ area in Outlook or similar. Goals that are not recorded are easily lost or forgotten!

Note all the tasks that you need to complete and consider enlisting the help of others such as other business owners and employees to create your action plan. Hint: If tasks are large consider breaking them down into small more manageable projects (chunking).

Prioritize the list using whatever numbering system works for you. Start with 1 being the most important and sliding down to least important. Sort your list so the 1’s are at the top of your list.Identify appropriate timelines for each task and who will be responsible for completing that task. Remember to delegate where appropriate!

Ensure you make it a weekly priority to work on your business. Your business success may well depend on the time you invest working on it. Get your plan out, review it, re-assess jobs as required, update it and motivate yourself to cross off another task.
