Ever wondered how you can get your website featured further up the Google search rankings?

Let’s face it, when potential customers scroll through search engines like Google or Bing they start at the top of the list and very rarely venture to the second page. As a result the higher you rank on the page the greater the chance of catching the eye of potential customers – the process of directing traffic to your website is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

Unfortunately there is no exact formula that will get your site to the top of search results. Certainly Googles Adwords will if you have a budget but what can the average business do without spending additional money on their site?

One of the easiest methods is by increasing the number of people that externally link to your website. This works because search engines use relevancy algorithms. Google’s robots jump from page to page on the Web via hyperlinks, so the more sites that link to you, the more likely it is that Google will find you, increasing your ranking.

When it comes to finding incoming links to your website, there is no easy solution. Some firms known as ‘link farms’ offer a quick solution but recent changes have made these redundant. The best method available is to ask other businesses to link to your website.

Tip: Look to businesses that have relevant content, such as your suppliers or relevant industry directories, and put to them the mutual benefits of exchanging links.
