Centrelink payment change coming Nov 1 for older Aussies

Australia’s aged care system is getting a massive overhaul next month and the government is introducing a new Support at Home program. It’s designed to help Aussies stay in their homes longer, rather than having to be placed in an aged care facility.

Services Australia has revealed the financial support for those choosing in-home care through Centrelink will become simpler as a result of the new Aged Care Act. The changes are set to come in on November 1.

While shutdowns can be an effective way to manage costs and align with reduced demand, they also raise important questions about employee entitlements, particularly when it comes to annual leave.
  
One of the most common challenges employers face is: what happens if an employee doesn’t have enough annual leave to cover the shutdown period?
 
 

Payday Super: What your business needs to know

Following the introduction of the Payday Super legislation and guidance by Parliament and the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) on 9 October, the tax community has passed its judgement on what it will mean for employers.

When the Payday Super legislation was introduced to Parliament last week (Thursday, 9 October), advocates and service providers welcomed the move, as it was intended to stop wage theft in the form of unpaid super.

Managing ill and injured workers: A guide for employers

$500,000 WorkSafe Innovations Grant for Victorian businesses

Victorian businesses now have the chance to turn bold ideas into reality, with applications open soon for the 2025 WorkSafe Innovations Grant.

Organisations across construction, manufacturing, transport, postal and warehousing are invited to apply for a share of up to $500,000 in funding to support projects that improve recovery outcomes for workers with physical injuries.

Office Closure

Our office will be closed from 12.30pm on Friday 21 November for a staff function.


Tax Deadline – 31 October 2025

Just a reminder that the above tax deadline that you may have seen or heard mentioned in the media recently is for clients that lodge their own tax return. Where you use a tax agent to lodge your return, you fall under the tax agents lodgment deadline which is much later in the year. This is usually in May but some clients are on the ATOs early lodgment list. Rest assured we will be in contact with you to ensure you meet your lodgment obligations!

Buildings For Sale: Ararat & Stawell Offices

Please be advised that the landlord for both the Ararat and Stawell office buildings has decided to put the two properties up for sale.

We want to assure you that this decision does not affect our current lease agreements or the day-to-day operations of our business. The service we provide to you will continue without interruption!

Future Rebranding

We will in the coming months rebrand and operate solely under the Watts Price Accountants name. Rest assured, your service will continue without interruption throughout this process.

Transition

Nigel Keating, the former owner has, after a planned 3 month transition, stepped away from the firm’s day-to-day operations and ownership to focus entirely on his Ballarat Lending business. We wish Nigel all the best!
